Our Clinical Supervision Approach
All clinical supervision at Harnessing Wellness Psychology and Equine Assisted Therapy is provided by an AHPRA Board-Approved Supervisor, a qualified and registered mental health practitioner, such as a psychologist, with extensive experience working across diverse client populations and specialised mental health settings.
In addition to core clinical expertise, our supervisors have undertaken advanced training in equine-assisted psychological interventions. They are actively involved in contributing to the field through research, education, and publication.
Supervision is offered to practitioners engaged in therapeutic work supporting trauma recovery, mental health treatment, relational wellbeing, and personal growth.
The Importance of Supervision in Equine-Assisted Therapy
Clinical supervision plays a vital role in maintaining competence, ethical integrity, and professionalism across the mental health field. As equine-assisted therapy continues to grow in popularity—with a wide range of training programs emerging globally—the diversity among practitioners has also expanded. Some bring extensive clinical qualifications, while others are driven by lived experience and a deep passion for supporting others.
Although evidence supporting the effectiveness of equine-assisted interventions is growing, continued research is essential. Like all mental health approaches, ethical and effective equine-assisted therapy depends on regular supervision to uphold best practices and safeguard client wellbeing. The inherent power imbalance in therapeutic relationships means that without adequate oversight, there is a risk of harm. High-quality supervision reduces this risk while enhancing therapeutic outcomes.
Supervision in this context requires a nuanced understanding of both human and equine behavior—ensuring the psychological and physical safety of every participant, including the horses.
With over 16 years of dedicated experience in equine-assisted therapy, Naomi provides supervision that aligns with the highest ethical and professional standards, as outlined by AHPRA, ASW, ACA, and PACFA. Her approach also adheres to equine welfare legislation and the safety guidelines endorsed by Horse Safety Australia.
Online Group Supervision
Group supervision offers a valuable space for practitioners to reflect, deepen clinical insight, navigate ethical challenges, and reduce the isolation that often comes with therapeutic work. It’s especially supportive for those in equine-assisted therapy, where supervision is essential to ensure safe, ethical, and evidence-informed practice as the field continues to grow.
Our group sessions provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment—welcoming practitioners at every stage of their journey, from new graduates to experienced professionals.
